OLC Hosts Acclaimed Children's Author
Children’s author Susan Wojciechowski will be the featured artist at Our Lady’s Christian School’s annual Author Day on Wednesday, August 21, 2010. She will make three formal presentations for students, conduct book signings and meet with small groups of students throughout the day.
Author of a dozen books for children, Mrs. Wojciechowski has been recognized with numerous literary awards including:
- American Library Association Notable Book of the Year
- Parents’ Choice Gold Award
- Parents' Choice Honor Book
- IRA Teachers' Choice Award
- Kate Greenaway Medal
- Christopher Medal for Excellence in Children's Books
- New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice
Mrs. Wojciechowski ‘s The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey , a story of a wood carver who finds healing in carving a crèche for a widow and her son, was made into a movie starring Tom Berenger and Joely Richardson.
“Being able to talk with a successful author, to hear first-hand how the creative process works and how the publishing process works, is invaluable for our students,” said Principal Patty Landenberger. “It’s such a wonderful opportunity for students, whether they’re in first grade or eighth, and we hope it’s something that influences them for years to come.”
This year’s Author Day marks the ninth in a series that has included such well-known authors as Steve Swinburne, Carmen Agra Deedy, Christopher and Jeanette Canyon, Ralph Masiello, Jerry Pallotta, Peter Catalanotto and Lindsay Barrett-George.
