OLC celebrates “Dividends for Life” during Catholic Schools Week
Our Lady’s Christian School will celebrate Catholic Schools Week 2010 with activities that highlight the lifelong benefits of Catholic education: morals, knowledge, family, faith and discipline. Under the theme "Dividends for Life," the OLC community will come together for a series of events that welcome students, teachers, families, priests, parishioners, and the public.
- Sunday, Jan 31st – Liturgy at St. Jude Church at 9 a.m. and Open House at OLC from 10 am to 1 pm. Students will participate in the liturgy as greeters, lectors, altar servers and gift bearers. The public is welcome to tour the school, meet teachers, coaches and parents; and enjoy refreshments, door prizes, games and more.

- Monday, Feb. 1st – Morals (Goal Setting) – Parent guest speakers will visit each classroom to talk with students about careers (K-4) and Goal Setting (5-8) from 1 to 2:45 p.m.
- Tuesday, Feb. 2nd – Family – Parent/Student Lunch, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Families join students for lunch and visit classrooms. This is also a day in which students may choose to pay 50 cents to wear jeans, with proceeds benefitting the Our Lady's Christian School Fund. Students are encouraged to give of their own money to support their school.
- Wednesday, Feb. 3rd – Knowledge – Math/Science – Principal Patty Landenberger will visit classrooms throughout the day and quiz students on math- and science-related trivia. Students will participate in Math and Science activities in the afternoon.
- Thursday, Feb. 4th – Faith – Liturgy – School liturgy at 9:15 a.m. at Saint Jude Church. All are welcome to join in a special Catholic Schools Week liturgy in which students will provide music, lector, altar serve, and bear gifts, and teachers and staff will serve as Eucharistic ministers. Students will present cards to the priests of the OLCS community to show their appreciation for their leadership and ministry.
- Friday, Feb. 5th – Discipline – Eighth graders will be in charge of the school for the day. The Principal of the Day will lead the annual “Great Pig Race” during a student assembly at 2:15 p.m.
"Catholic Schools Week offers a wonderful opportunity not just to celebrate what we love about our school, but to rededicate ourselves to the core values of Catholic education. We're here to grow spritually as well as academically, to grow both in faith and knowledge," said OLC principal Patty Landenberger.
Students will also focus on serving others during the week. Along with Saint George and Our Lady of Peace schools, OLC will conduct a book drive to collect new and gently used books for "Hooked on Books," a local non-profit organization that provides free books for needy children.
Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration that focuses attention on the good work done by the nation’s Catholic schools. The week will be observed Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, 2010. Catholic Schools Week is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
