Our Lady's Christian School

June 1

From the Principal

“They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection.” Luke 20:36

It has been a great year at Our Lady’s Christian School for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed the students. I was very fortunate to become a part of a school that has excellent teachers, a wonderful staff; great, caring, and involved parents, delightful students, and superb priests as a part of OLCS.

OLCS is also fortunate to have many generous donors as well as an advancement director who is able to raise funds in order for us to keep all of our teachers and the benefits we provide to the students. We will be able to have a full-time music teacher, a full-time art teacher, a full-time computer teacher, a full-time Mandarin teacher, a full-time gym teacher and a part-time librarian next year.

There are many field trips this week, 8th grade retreat and class trip, and finally 8th grade graduation on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Monday, June 7th will be a Dress Down day. The students will be cleaning.

Tuesday, June 8th is our last day of school. The students should dress up for the Prayer Service and Awards, then they will change and go to the Waldameer Picnic. The Prayer Service will begin at 9:00 a.m. in St. Jude’s Church.

Have a safe and relaxing summer!!!!
--Mrs. Landenberger

Sports sign-ups: info for parents

Last week the students were able to sign up for any 2010-2011 sports they are interested in playing. These lists are used for budgeting purposes by the Athletic Board and as contact lists for the coaches. A student isn't obligated to play a sport just because they signed up for it. Rather, it gives the Athletic Board and coaches an idea of how many students are interested in the various sports. Students are allowed to come out for a sport at the beginning of the season even if they didn't sign up for it.

Please talk to your kids about the sports they signed up for and don't hesitate to call any Athletic Board member if you have any questions. Beginning with 2010 fall sports, parents will receive a parent broadcast as a reminder that the season is starting.

Our Lady’s Christian School Challenge Fund Soars

And yes, there is still time to make your gift on or before June 30, 2010!

Donations to the OLC School Fund will save your family $560 in tuition for the 2010-2011 school year!
It is “savings” to the ears of many to know that their tuition is made affordable from the kindnesses of others. Advancement programs through the Erie Diocese work diligently engaging their school community to make a difference. Why? So those families who yearn for a Catholic education receive one.
Here are just a few reasons why donors invest and believe in an OLCS education:

  • A future filled of promise and success for all children.
  • Inspire Christian beliefs as a foundation to strengthen young minds.
  • Continue to promote and expand the academic possibilities.
  • Allow for all children and their families to feel secure knowing their school is strong and will continue to prosper from their gifts.
  • Provide the finest education in an elementary setting.
  • Being a part of the OLCS vision and monetarily supporting the School Fund to keep our doors open for many years to come.
  • Who wouldn’t support a Challenge where each new and/or increased gift is matched dollar for dollar?

And if the above beliefs does not inspire you to look into your heart than perhaps the 460 OLCS children will inspire you to do so.

Or the $19,250 financially required to maintain a number of families at OLCS. Even with the *$87,000 allocated for tuition assistance, many still need our help and the help from others.

You can make a gift online now!

We invite you to partner with us and commit to the future of Catholic education!

Stay in touch on Facebook!

The school year is ending, but you can stay in touch with OLC on Facebook all summer! Just search “Our Lady’s Christian School” and “like” us!

Spring Cleaning? Think Christmas!

As you are working on your spring cleaning projects, and you come across items that you plan to get rid of, think of the Christmas Fair!

Do you have craft items that have been sitting around that you are planning on getting rid of? We could use them. Do you have scrap wood that is just sitting around taking up space in your basement or garage? We could use that too. We have some wonderful wood crafters who could turn your scrap wood into beautiful holiday decorations to sell at the Christmas Fair.

Click for a list of neeeded items. We are also in need of more crafters!! If you are interested in any way, please contact Brenda Nelligan at 456-0504.

Reminder

Back-to-school mini-courses set for August

We’re not quite done with the year, but planning is already underway for back-to-school! OLC will again offer a variety of mini-courses this August for students entering grades 3-8. These classes are designed and taught by OLCS teachers during the week of August 9-13. Subjects include math, science, and language arts (writing). Cost for each class is $45. These classes are a great way to help students get back in the swing for a new school year! Click for class information and registration form.
