From the Principal
“Lord, you will show me the path of life and fill me with joy in your presence.” Ps 16:11
Symbols are very important to children. Children sometimes need symbols in order to understand certain concepts. Water reminds us of our baptism. You can place a bowl of water in your home to be a reminder of our baptism. During Lent you could bring out your child’s baptismal candles or garments and photos. A Crucifix reminds us of Jesus’ death and a reminder of God’s love. A bowl of Sand is a reminder of our journey and the journey when God led the people in the desert. A Candle can become the focus of prayer.
Thank you for visiting the Book Fair and making the Book Fair a success.
What’s going on this week?
On Tuesday, March 9th, the 2nd, 5th, and 6th graders are attending the* Bayhawks* game.
Also on Tuesday,* Msgr. Robert Malene* will be a guest speaker at St. Jude’s Church at 6:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, March 10, The Ophelia Project will present “What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do...” The assembly presents students with a new way to talk about bullying and to understand the key roles of those involved while focusing on the consequences of their action. It provides an understanding as to why it’s such a “big deal”.
Wednesday is also an early dismissal day. We will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. Students may wear jeans for 50 cents, and all proceeds will go to help people in Haiti.
Friday, March 12, 2nd grade will have a prayer service. Friday night at 6:30 p.m. are Stations of the Cross at St. Jude’s Church.
Coming Up...
NO SCHOOL – Monday, March 15th
Wednesday, March 17th will be a Jeans Day. Students may wear jeans and a green shirt.
Have a great week!

New for Fall 2010: Half-day Pre-K!
To help meet a growing demand for Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) classes for 4- and 5-year-olds, Our Lady's Christian School will offer a half-day Pre-K class beginning in the Fall of 2010.
The new class will meet Mondays through Fridays from 12:15 to 3 p.m. and will be located in our preschool classroom in Saint Jude Church.
The curriculum will focus on preparing students for success in kindergarten and beyond. Teachers will use lots of hands-on activities to foster preschoolers' academic, social, spiritual and emotional growth. They'll learn in a structured (but fun!) setting from certified, veteran teachers with assistance from experienced aides. We expect a teacher-to-student ratio of one-to-nine or fewer. Click here for more information about curriculum.
We will continue to offer half-day 4-year-old preschool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, and students in that class have the option of staying for afternoon classes each day (MWF), or just on Wednesday afternoons.
Tuition will be set later this spring, but parents can expect it to be in line with our current half-day rates.
To accommodate the new schedule, OLC will no longer offer half-day afternoon classes for 3-year-olds. We will continue to offer morning classes for 3-year-olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we'll also continue our current full-day PreK class which is offered Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
If you have questions or would like to enroll your child in the afternoon PreK class, please contact the school office at 838-7676. Enrollment is limited, so don't wait!

Legacy Gala offers philanthropic opportunity for independent consultants
Are you an independent consultant? The OLCS Legacy Gala needs your support. If you (or someone you know) sell Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Stamp It Up, Creative Memories, Silpada or Avon to name a few, we invite you to donate a basket or gift certificate for the Legacy Gala basket auction. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to provide a gift and receive one in return--a win/win for all! Interested? Please contact Jennie Hagerty at 838-0908.
Calling all volunteers: help needed for Legacy Gala
The Legacy Gala is the major fundraising event for our school. Your help is greatly needed to make this a success. Volunteers are needed for donations, organizing, clerical support and more. Let’s all work together to make this the best Gala to date! Click here for more information and a volunteer form.
We are inviting each grade to put together a Theme Basket. If you have an item that would apply to a basket other than the one assigned to your child’s grade, please send that item in too! Click here for a list of each grade’s basket theme.
If you would like to make a monetary donation instead of an item, please send your money to the school office, attention Joy Stempora or Lisa Keating. We hope to receive enough donations to purchase an electronic item such as an electronic book reader (Kindle or Nook), or iTouch or iPod. If we don’t receive enough for a big item, donations will be used to help complete the baskets.
Any questions, please contact Lisa Keating, 833-1468 or Joy Stempora, 454-3242.
