Education: Bachelor of Arts, Special Education, Mercyhurst College
"The best thing about teaching is the eagerness and excitement children have towards learning and trying new things; it’s contagious and keeps me enthusiastic as well. I choose to teach in a Catholic school because my own children attended OLC and it provided a wonderful foundation both academically and spiritually. The influence of school projects as well as daily religion class and prayer certainly has an impact on children becoming Christ-centered and socially conscious citizens. I can think of no where else I would rather teach.”

What we're learning
Second grade is a year of building and strengthening skills.
Second graders dedicate a lot of time developing a love of reading. They work on decoding skills, vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. We work on improving writing skills on a daily basis.
Math skill development is very important, especially the memorization of addition and subtraction facts. We also learn how to tell time, count and add money, measure, graph and regroup.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a high point for second graders. We work all year preparing for this special day. First Reconciliation is held in early spring.
In science, we cover many areas including life science, physical science, earth science and drug and alcohol awareness, to name just a few. The students enjoy the many hands-on activities.
In social studies, children broaden their concept of the world. We focus on communities while developing map skills.
Every second grader eagerly anticipates learning cursive handwriting. Students begin cursive mid-year after a thorough review of manuscript handwriting.
