"The best thing about teaching is meeting new families and seeing the faces of children light up when they are successful in something challenging. Often they are having fun with hands-on activities and don’t even realize they are learning.”

Education: Bachelor of Arts, Special Education, Mercyhurst College
"The best thing about teaching is the eagerness and excitement children have towards learning and trying new things; it’s contagious and keeps me enthusiastic as well. I choose to teach in a Catholic school because my own children attended OLC and it provided a wonderful foundation both academically and spiritually. The influence of school projects as well as daily religion class and prayer certainly has an impact on children becoming Christ-centered and socially conscious citizens. I can think of no where else I would rather teach.”
What we're learning
Kindergarten students engage in child-centered activities based on a variety of themes throughout the year.
They first enjoy the colorful fall season as they gather leaves, nuts, and pebbles to sort, compare and graph. Since October is Fire Safety Month, the children practice fire drills along with learning to be fire smart.
We increase the children's appreciation for the love and goodness of God as well as ways to be thankful as we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
Through Advent activities, kindergartners experience the joy of preparing for Christmas and the coming of Baby Jesus.
Our winter themes include families, night time, penguins, polar bears and the Arctic region.
Spring themes come alive as we study pond life, insects, baby animals and pets.
We encourage parents to share their love of reading with their children by serving as guest readers. Children's reading experts agree that reading aloud offers the easiest and most effective way to help children become lifelong readers.
