Legacy Gala 2011

Welcome "Home"

On May 5th we welcomed more than 290 guests "home" to the OLCS gym and parish center for our 2012 Legacy Celebration in honor of Monsignor Robert Brugger, and Pat and Judy Mastrian. Between 1988 and 2009, Msgr. Brugger served as a devoted pastor of St. Jude. During those 11 years, he was actively involved in the growth of OLC, being instrumental in implementing a marketing and advancement program, Mandarin Chinese as a K-8 language class, and other advances to the curriculum. After moving to the area in 1971, Pat and Judy Mastrian enrolled their four children in OLC. They've spent the past 40+ years involved in the school as parents, coaches, volunteers, council members and grandparents. Our 2012 Honorees exemplify the meaning of service, and they demonstrate the difference one person can make. We thank them for their inspiring service to OLC and for all they've done to advance Catholic education.

To honor their school-related work in a space that was most fitting, we brought the Legacy event home to the school. With the help of students, the school community and the incredible talents of Peggy Chrzanowski and her partner from Special Occasions Rentals and Design, the OLC gym was transformed into a space befitting the occasion. Everyone got involved. Students painted whimsical flowers, while teachers and volunteers assembled them into more than 45 centerpieces. Students inflated more than 600 colorful balloons, which were then secured to ceiling grids. Others draped, set lights, assembled auction baskets, baked cookies and arranged tables. That generous community spirit filled the room as we welcomed our guests and honorees.
David and Andrea Hallman and Jim and Carey Vieira served as Chair Couples for the event. The Colony Inn and Grill provided delicious food stations and an irresistible chocolate fountain. Tennessee Back Porch provided the lively dancing music, and numerous local businesses, individuals and families donated sponsorships and our wonderful auction items. Even OLC administrator and last year's honoree Mark Eisert got into the action by leading a "chicken dance" that raised $59. Hey, every little bit helps! Although it's too early to publish final numbers, a preliminary estimate suggests we'll easily double the net amount raised for the school fund last year. Stay tuned for an update.
