Celebrating 50 Golden years -- A weekend to remember
The OLCS community joined together the weekend of August 7, 2011 to celebrate the school’s “50th” anniversary. The weekend kicked off with the 15th Annual OLCS Golf Outing at Lake Shore Country Club. Over 90 golfers enjoyed a beautiful day of sunshine and friendship. The Halupzynski father and son duo along with John Lorei and Rick Talbot led all foursomes. The foursome of Natalie Sweny, Allison Fessler, Chris Podufal, and Sandy Winkler took first place for the women.
The fun continued that evening on the Parish lawn with an “out of this world” pig roast. The entertainment was one of Erie’s best as Tennessee Backporch entertained the crowd for hours. Alumni, Parishioners, School families, Faculty, (current and former) and so many more had a amazing time sharing memories of the past.
On Saturday evening everyone was decked out in their fancy clothes to enjoy a lovely dinner and dedication to the Class of 1960 and 1961. The Sisters of St. Joseph and former OLCS Principals Sister Mary Rita and Jim Brown were welcomed by alumni who have only fond memories of OLCS. Sister Ann Stephanie did a exquisite job sharing with the audience the beginning phases of OLCS and how they appreciated every little thing that was given to them. Mark Eisert received a standing ovation as he was recognized for his 40 year commitment to the school. Jim Brown shared many wonderful stories about Mr. Eisert before presenting him with the award.
The weekend concluded with a beautiful mass prepared and celebrated by Father Nicholas Rouch, Vicar of Education. Father Rouch focused on the importance of a Catholic education and congratulated Our Lady's Christian School in their 50 year celebration. Everyone enjoyed a continental breakfast and school tours at the school following mass. Guests were greeted by our young alumni and many teachers were on hand to share their excitement and belief in OLCS!
The endless laughter and story telling from the wonderful weekend will be cherished in our hearts forever. We were able to being together the past, present and even the future of an elementary school that has played a significant importance in the lives of so many.
