Religion
Our Catholic faith is at the center of everything we do at OLC. Each day begins with prayer. We support one another as we learn and live our faith and experience sacraments together. Students know that God is included in all of our activities as we encourage each other to live out Gospel values.
How does this make a difference?
It sets the tone for our approach to education, beginning with our belief that each child is a unique individual created by God with special gifts and talents.
Faith Everyday
Students explore their Catholic faith through daily prayer and religion classes as well as regular liturgies, prayer services and reconciliation celebrations. As a school community, faculty, staff, students and parents live out gospel values through everyday interaction. Students also participate in:
- Individual class liturgies
- Community service projects
- Sacramental preparation
- Personal and communal prayer
- Class retreats
Religion Classes
Our Lady’s Christian School uses the Faith First textbook series in all grades. The series features cross-curricular activities emphasizing Catholic social teaching, technology support, and materials for parents to use at home. Using a spiral learning approach centered on the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, religion classes build students’ understanding of faith concepts and reinforce and extend content as children mature
Character Education
Each month students focus on a different gospel value and explore its importance in their daily lives. Students strive to understand and use values such as compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, mercy and obedience.
No Bullying
The “No Bully” program educates students, teachers and staff about different types of bullying behavior how to cope with it. All students sign a “No Bully Pledge” at the beginning of each school year. Students are encouraged to report bullying whenever they encounter it.
